The long search for the different actors to play Ian Fleming’s James Bond over the decades is rife with stories, runours and conspiracies and has kept more than a few PR pundits spinning. Last summer it even manifested The Search for Bond a book by film columnist Robert Sellers, which discusses some of actors that had been considered and rejected over the years for some reason or another and had fallen at the last hurdle. They included Patrick McGoohan, Burt Reynolds, and Lewis Collins etc.
Now the first new Bond film to be made since 2021 when Daniel Craig starred in No Time to Die in which HM The Queen made a cameo appearence and so the hunt is back on again. This new intense search with names like Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are being frequently mentioned, but evidently, according to the rumor mill, there is one front runner, 35-year-old British actor Callum Turner. Indisputably handsome, you may have seen this 6ft actor in George Clooney’s sports movie The Boys in the Boat, and the Anya Taylor-Joy Emma (he played dashing Mr Churchill), and the second and third films in the Fantastic Beasts series. Like the best Bonds to date …..Connery and Craig… he is not posh at all and grew up working class.
However, as every film buff seems entitled to proffer their own candidate to play this iconic character, we thought we should join in. Our suggestion is MAX PARKER the openly gay actor who stole all our hearts in BOOTS. An extremely versatile actor who is a soap opera star in the UK, and he is just about to make an appearance in Doctor Who. If you are not that sure of who Parker is, check out this still from Dr Who. Now, doesn’t that look like a future James Bond to you?
- Sean Connery (1962-1971): The original, establishing the suave but tough archetype.
- George Lazenby (1969): A brief, emotionally deeper take in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
- Roger Moore (1973-1985): Brought a lighter, more humorous, and witty Bond.
- Timothy Dalton (1987-1989): A darker, grittier portrayal reflecting a changing world.
- Pierce Brosnan (1995-2002): Blended action with classic charm and style.
- Daniel Craig (2006-2021): A physically intense, emotionally raw, and modern Bond.
