One of the resounding outtakes we took from the outrageous results of the US Election is that we need to use our might and power in supporting those who are genuine allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Far too often we are indiscriminately backing rampant homophobes and transphobes with both and our votes. If we are ever to really achieve full equal rights we need to seriously consider the company we keep.
One way is supporting The Queer Food Foundation whose mission is music to our ears. I.e. to be a nationwide resource and platform for LGBTQIA+ individuals in food and to protect, and fund queer food spaces.
They told Queerguru : “There is a need for dedicated spaces for queer and LGBTQAI+ communities to gather, build community, learn from one another and find resources. Queer folks have been a critical identity serving the food industry in the US, but there has been limited representation at the larger discussions about the food industry, especially within intersectional identities.
From farmworkers, sommeliers, media experts to waitstaff, brewers, and gardeners, we hope to fill in that gap, to begin creating a platform for queer expression in food, to advocate for more inclusive food industry spaces, and to offer all queer food workers a space to build, meet, and speak about their experiences.”
Queer All Year is about showcasing people and organizations who you should support long after Pride and LGBTQA+ History Month are over; with the long-term goal of curating and building a network of queer food folks Additionally, we started this initiative with an emphasis on long-term strategic partnerships rather than partnerships only during Pride.
Utilizing their network of queer food workers and chefs, they work with organizations to host and curate informative, fun, and collaborative events. Current supporters include Bento Box, James Beard Foundation, Resy, and more.
