There are some things so sacred in the queer lexicon they should never be tampered with. Tammy Faye Bakker is one such icon. Jackie Segal is another. Not such maybe a household name in LGBTQ+ circles everywhere, but mention her (unofficial) title The Queen of Versailles and there will be recognition.
The documentary about her outrageous life style in 2012 made for one of the hottest Press tickets at Sundance that year especially when this rag-to-riches story never found its happy ending. However that didn’t stop us leaning in for ever single minute wanting a dramatic finish. After a stock market plummet nearly killed the Segals dream home, Jackie clawed her way back into this new TV series that portrays her and her family as they are ready to return to their famous 90,000 square-foot home.
But now our fond memories of the Segals are being challenged by none other than the Tony/Emmy Award Winner Kristin Cheneworth. It has just been announced this rag to riches to rags to riches true(ish) story is being made into a BROADWAY MUSICAL. Cheneworth playing Jacqui of course, and Mr Siegal will be played by Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham
