The Collection Of Sir Elton John : Goodbye Peachtree Road: a series of Auctions at Christie

Elton John is not only a brilliant musician with such a warm and welcoming personality but he is also unquestionably the most selfless and generous  queer man we have ever come across.  In the early 1990s he founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) that has raised over $565 million to support HIV-related programs across ninety countries. It includes aiding innovative HIV  prevention, education programs, direct care and support services to people living with or at risk of HIV.

In another life (!) Queerguru’s Editor was involved in some Sales of Elton ….. and his husband David Furnish…..extensive personal wardrobes….. (boy could those two shop!) …..  and every single penny of the thousands of pounds raised went straight into EJAF’s coffers.  Others may talk the talk but Elton has made a point of turning all of his ideas to help out community into reality. The UK Government  gave him a Knighthood for all his work …..left up to Queerguru, we would have given him a Sainthood.

In 1991 Sir Elton searched  for a new home in the United States : he found Los Angeles to be overwhelming and New York unsafe, and he fell in love with the Southern charm of Atlanta. Over the years, Elton continued to purchase neighboring units in Park Place condos to accommodate a vast art collection. Eventually, it expanded to include 12,000 + square feet across seven units combined on multiple floors.

Now  as part of his ‘retirement,” he has decided to sell his ‘home’ on Peachtree Drive plus all its contents which together make up for one of the largest art collections in the world . With a wealth of one-of-a-kind pieces, from a custom Damien Hirst to an extravagant 18th-century costume designed by Sandy Powell, the collection reflects the sensibility of a singular artist, one whose work and vision is admired the world over.

He commissioned Christies with the enormous task of setting up a series of different auctions that kick off tonight Feb 21st  in New York. There is “The Day Sale’., ‘Honky Chateau’ , ‘Elton’s Versace” “Love, Lust and Devotion (Photography)”  ‘The JewelBox’  and so it goes on .  Check HERE for all the details
