The anarchic humor of the iconic David Hoyle

The title ‘queer icon’ is so overused these days and usually for describing the most unqualified of people.  It does however perfectly fit David Hoyle a legendary English performance artist, avant-garde cabaret artist, singer, actor, comedian, and film director.

Since the early 1990’s Hoyle’s surreal satirical performances have established him as one of our most favorite queer performers. Nothing escapes his razor-sharp wit and  his anarchic views on life attacking what he sees as dominant trends in “bourgeois Britain and the materialistic-hedonistic gay scene”

Last year as the UK started to deal with the chaos created by Brexit, Hoyle made a wee film with Lee Baxter that he claimed was about the International tour he wanted to undertake to promote British Industry and Culture. It’s a glorious tongue-in-cheek piece that is vintage Hoyle.

Its about to be screened at Cinema Galleggiante – Acque Sconosciute  an open-air film festival that takes place on the lagoon n Venice …. but you can watch it here

P.S. If you are in London right now then be sure to make tracks to The Royal Vauxhall Tavern as the one  and only David Hoyle returns to create an opportunity for healing, a coming together in mutual love and support, and an opportunity to create a rebellion on Thursday 2nd September
