A Workshop entitled DEAREST ART COLLECTOR hosted by Ferren Gibson is just one of the many events at TATE LATES this week that celebrate women artists in Tate’s collection in London. Inspired by Guerrilla Girls’ Dearest Art Collector, when they began a campaign that targeted museums, dealers, critics, and artists who they felt were responsible for, or complicit in, the exclusion of women and non-white artists.
In this after-hours mix of art, music, film, conversation and food on Feb 25th also be prepared to experience a series of works by London-based artist Lakwena which comment on the nature of social media as a cultural interface. Lakwena Maciver’s works act as prayers and meditations which respond to and re-appropriate elements of pop culture and explore the role of the artist as a mythmaker.
Plus a film screening of Marin Håskjold – What is a Woman? ‘Hva er en kvinne?’ which focuses on a discussion that arises in a women’s locker room when a trans woman is asked to leave. While suggesting some of the everyday encounters experienced by people who are trans and nonbinary, the film opens up space for reflection and dialogue. Followed by a conversation with the artist.
Caroline Sinders Workshop is entitled Feminist Data Set which aims to combat bias and provide a resource to locate feminist and other intersectional ways of thinking across online media.
