Romeo, Romeo ….wherefore art thou Romeo?

Life hasn’t been all bad for Victoria Beckham, the Essex-born girl who, ironically, was called Posh Spice and was part of the Spice Girls, who sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling girl group in history. But success elsewhere has eluded her. When she went solo, her eponymous debut album, which was released on 1 October 2001, reached Number 10 in the UK album chart  but the album reportedly cost £5 million to produce and sold a modest 50,000 copies.

She later became a fashion designer, launching her own label in September 2008. By 2011, it had grown into a fixture of New York Fashion Week, and a lower-priced Victoria by Victoria Beckham label was introduced. In the first quarter of 2011–12, it was predicted to generate annual sales of more than £60 million. Initially known for its dresses, the range has expanded into separates and luxury handbags priced up to £18,000.  In November 2011, Victoria Beckham won Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, but by  2018 the label was losing £4,000 a day. In November 2019, Victoria Beckham Limited, which had not made a profit since it launched in 2008, reported a £12.3m loss for 2018, and by 2022, Beckham’s fashion label was £54 million in debt.

But on the other hand, by far her biggest life success was her marriage to David Beckham, the English former professional footballer, the president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City F.C. Beckham is considered one of the best players of his generation and one of the greatest set-piece specialists of all time. He won 19 major trophies in his career, and is the only English player to have won a league title in four different countries: England, France, Spain, and the United States. He is also stunningly good-looking and has given Victoria four children and a title too, as when the King bestowed a knighthood on him, she became Lady Beckham.

Now one of the sons seems fated to succeed where she failed.  Desperate to become an actress, even though she won two Razzie Awards and two Stinker Awards for her bad acting in Spice World: The Movie.  She also appeared in an episode of Ugly Betty and the movie Zoolander film, where she fared no better, and I’m sure she regrets it now.

Romeo, her 24-year-old 2nd son, a former football player and model, has inherited his parents’ good looks but hopefully not her ‘acting ability’.   He is now starring in FORTY LOVE a new queer romance in which he appears alongside acting legend Catherine Deneuve.  The plot goes like this:

At 21, Sacha Gallo only knows one world: tennis. Raised and relentlessly trained by his father, the two share a single goal – to win their first major trophy title in Paris. But the arrival of a charismatic new rival challenges everything Sacha thought he understood about competition, ambition, and himself. For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature: love. A force as exhilarating as it is destabilizing – and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.

Romeo is the spitting image of his father s, so much so that you may just want to turn the sound off and stare .  Plus, for the record, he’s only playing gay for pay, even though we don’t actually know who he’s been dating since he broke up with model Mia Regan in 2024……Hmmmm
