If the COViD 19 means the safest place to celebrate Valentines Day this year will be staying at home, then we have perfect romantic answer for you
Veteran award-winning queer actor Sir Derek Jacobi (Love is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon etc) has joined a British star-studded cast in a new filmed theatre re-imagined version of Shakespeare’s greatest tragic love story Romeo and Juliet. Sir Derek will play the Narrator and Oliver Award Winner Sam Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen) will play the title role alongside newcomer Emily Redpath.
Lookout for heartthrob Jonny Labey (Soft Lad) playing Paris one of Juliet’s suitor. He’s a good match, wealthy, well-connected and evidently still single. Just saying
Also in the cast are Brandon Bassir as Mercutio, Daniel Bowerbank as Benvolio, Sylvester Akinrolabu as Tybalt, Helen Anker as Capulet, Marc Ozall as Montague, Lucy Tregear as Nurse, Vinta Morgan as Friar, Jessica Murrain as Prince, Timmy Driscoll as Sam, Tats Nyazika as Gregory, Iskandar Eton as Abe and Ollie Tennant as Balthasar.
Romeo & Juliet is directed by Nick Evans, and will be available to stream from Saturday 13 to Saturday 20 February 2021, with tickets on sale now. A portion of proceeds will go to Acting for Others.
