Movies and politics are very similar in the way that to really succeed then timing is everything. This is certainly the case for Richard Gere and his new movie that is about to be screened as the Gala Opening Night at Miami Film Festival on March 3rd 2017. Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer written & directed by Joseph Cedar is the tale of Norman a glorious con-man/opportunist : a man who claims to know the right people in political circles and can get things done. Sound familiar yet?
When an Israeli dignitary visits New York, Norman decides to make an impression by buying him some extremely expensive shoes that he can ill-afford. However a gold-star connection is made, and three years later when the man winds up becoming Israel’s prime minister, Norman is welcomed into his inner circle. The down side is that the same elite gang he was desperate to be a part of circle begins asking him to write cheques that he can no longer cash — and the fallout could destroy the reputation Norman has spent whole his life building.
The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Lior Ashkenazi, Michael Sheen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Steve Buscemi and Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens, but it is really Gere that steals the show in one of his best performances in recent years. At 67 years old the actor also looks as hot as hell (if that matters to you!) a fact you can check out for yourself as he will be present for both the Screening and the After-Party which is more than enough reason to be sure to snaffle a ticket before they sell out.
