Queerguru’s Jose Mayorga reviews The Hottest Summer (L’ Estate piu Calda)

A fiction set in Sicily in a Roman Catholic context. During record-breaking hot summer days,  charismatic and handsome soon-to-be-priest deacon Don Nicola (Gianmarco Saurino) visits the small villa and catches the eye and interest of volunteers at the church camp and close friends Valentina (Alice Angelica) and Lucia (Nicole Damiani).  Don Nicola´s allure is like a magnet that also bewitches children, choir members, and Carmen (Stefania Sandrelli).

While teaching and playing, Don Nicola and Lucia become a good team. There is an incident provoked by Carmen that makes them react together and turns them into a kind of instant celebrities in town,  media included since Don Nicola and Lucia provide a sense of community the people lack.  After the incident, the large park and the village are declared places of interest under the protection of the Italian National Trust.

During the hot summer days, energies flow and opposites attract.  This romantic Italian comedy on love and friendship is well balanced; its intimate sexual sequences are credible and hot, also a perfect match for the heat of the season.

Afterward with schools reopening, the summer comes to an end, it’s time to sum it up and get back to reality.

Directed by  Matteo Pilati  (Marscapone) and is now streaming on Amazon Prime
