Londoners love a boutique festival and none is more bijou than The Mighty Hoopla festival run by those scallywags Sink the Pink.
Queerguru put something glittery on, downloaded the app and headed straight for the Big Top to see the fabulous House Gospel Choir who give dance classics such as Your Love by Frankie Knuckles an amazing vocal makeover.
We then checked out our good friends The Glory on the Cabaret Stage who were doing brisk business – wigs were flying and the crowd were already dancing on the tables.
The Hoopla app kindly let us know that ‘if the big top is busy there is often room around the rear entrance’. On a promise, needless to say we wasted no time dashing over but just ended up jumping around to Bananarama. We did however, bump into some good friends including Margaret Thatcher (looking surprisingly fragrant) and Queerguru favourite the delicious Russell Tovey.
After a few more light refreshments we pushed our way to the front of the main stage for the one and only Chaka Khan (10x Grammys/70M record sales). Not only has she produced one of last years greatest funk records (Like Sugar) but has a back catalogue peppered with global hits and all time classics like I’m Every Woman, Aint Nobody and the Prince penned I Feel For You.
As the sun set, the bars emptied (and the bushes got busy!) and Queerguru staggered home, already dreaming of making Mighty Hoopla next year.
