We love coming across new queer talent in the Queerguru office, and want to share the new single, Resurrection by Welsh performance art provocateur, Celyn of Gwent.
Launched last night to a full house at London’s Divine queer cabaret space Resurrection combines powerful haunting vocals, with electronic beats inspired by queer club culture. The track is very evocative of early 1980s indie synth-pop.
Resurrection sees Celyn focus as a songwriter and producer on rebirth, both personal and planetary. Exploring themes of ecological collapse and political turmoil, Celyn of Gwent stakes their claim as an artist grappling with the present moment.
After living in London and Glasgow, Celyn’s return to South East Wales has provided the base from which to craft and release their intense new music. The accompanying music video by Director Marieke Macklon showcases Celyn’s music among the Gwent mountains and industrial warehouse rave spaces that have shaped this artist of contradictions.
Celyn says “It feels like a time of huge shifts societally and I hope the song resonates because of that. As I say in the closing lyrics, “it’s time now for turning from comfort, to knowing. We’re at the brink of destruction or renewal for our world. This song speaks to this feeling of being on the edge of possibility for transformation.’
Someone to keep an eye on!
