Queerguru previews QUEER COMEDY SHOWCASE a fundraiser for Summer of Sass that helps troubled queer youth

Kristen Becker will hate me for describing her as a pillar of the community in Provincetown.  So I won’t.  But in 2017 this rather brilliant lesbian standup comic did something few of us ever do : she actually. turned her dream of helping queer young kids into a reality.  She formed SUMMER OF SASS which gives troubled #LGBTQ kids from the Deep South a ‘mental health’ break by way of a summer in PTown.

Since then Summer of Sass has gone from strength to strength helping  a different batch of queer kids every year.  The local community rallied around and an anonymous donor gave Victorian 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom property  located on a third of an acre and dates to 1880. This allowed Summer of Sass to QUADRUPLE the number of Sassers we serve. Becker told Queerguru that she sees the $3.7 million home as symbolic of the way Provincetown must pledge to care for its own future.

Since annual operational expenses now increase fourfold with the addition of permanent housing and meeting space, she hopes community members will be similarly inspired to commit to recurring tax-deductible donations. Agent Nathan Butera of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty contributed his commission fees upon the close of sale.

This weekend to raise much needed funds Kristen has turned to her other community …..of comics …. to mount a Queer Comedy Showcase at the Crown and Anchor .  We know the packed bill will be amazing but the Queerguru team are most excited at  seeing is the hilarious Greek/American comedian with the impossible-to-pronounce name GUS CONSTANTELLIS at what we think will be his debut PTown appearance.  If you check out the video below you’ll want to book tickets NOW $25 a pop and all of it goes to Summer of Sass
