I never suspected that only a mile from my home in Silver Lake was the Tom House, a Craftsman-style house in Echo Park, California, where Tom of Finland once lived. It is now home to the Tom of Finland Foundation. Last Thursday night my husband Donovan and I attended an art exhibition there with work painted by Georg Meyer-Weil.

He certainly can draw and, in the tradition, has a strong flair for male erotica. He had many paintings in various media, including ink, watercolor, and acrylic, utilizing leather bondage gear in many cases.  Some of the art was painted on denim, retro-style shirts, and some sort of what appeared to be official documents.

Georg Meyer-Weil is the artist-in-residence currently at the Tom of Finland Foundation. His command of the male form is fascinating. I enjoyed how he used only a few colors and ink to bring out the male musculature, and found the paintings using blue watercolors particularly captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed this art exhibition, which is open to the public September 17th through September 22nd. If you’re in California, check it out!
