Being a big fan (verging on groupie!) of MATTEO LANE is not our New Years Resolution as we have been following this potty-mouthed, hilarious queer comic for years. In fact, when he was about to make a return visit to perform again in Provincetown for a second time in 2021 QUEERGURU grabbed him for a quick chat (see HERE)
If you have never met and (obviously) not. fallen in love with Matteo yet, THEN RETURN YOUR GAY CARD IMMEDIATELY!
You only need to watch 30 minutes of him perform, and you will know EVERYTHING you need to know about him. Matteo is an (over) sharer. But it’s not his fault: as he’s a 39-year-old Italian/Mexican/Irish/American gay man who will tell you he can speak (almost) five languages, but has only one preferred sexual position. Born in a tough part of Chicago, he is now a permanent fixture in the Village Comedy Clubs in NY. Matteo was once so accurately described as a male “Joan Rivers‘, and like her, he has a sheer passion for his work, and is at his best interacting with members of the audience. He gets them to share their life stories/problems so he can judge them (!) and offer some questionably valuable advice. His words stream out like a torrent, and even though what he is doling out is both wicked and wickedly funny, he does so with an enormous grin on his face.
Another of Matteo’s quality’s is that he easily gets obsessed, and thankfully, he likes to share them with us. Like this latest one called NEXT
In the old days when it was tough to meet other gay men to date, and even tougher to see gay men on TV Netflx until invented the reality Dating Show. The concept of NEXT was that they would bring five people onto a bus, and outside the bus was ‘The Dater’ . So one by one they would walk out, give three (really ridiculous) facts about themselves and the longer they are on the date the more money that they can win . And at the end, if they are asked if they want to go on a second date by the dater and they say yes, they go on the date, If they say no, they get to keep the money, but if The Dater doesnt want to offer a second date he just says NEXT .
Matto has of course, laid his hands on one of the show’s recordings and you can play it now: the show itself is petty, demoralising and very unfunny. That is, until Matteo adds his commentary
