We are so very happy that one of the 50 countries around the globe where QUEERGURU has followers is SCOTLAND. What we love about our Scottish readers is that they were not slow in coming forward with ‘opinions’ about The Orange Buffoon turning up there recently with an enormous entourage just to play golf. Some of the protest placards were wickedly funny and certainly didn’t mince words. Now he’s gone, the Scottish Government is going to erect some 300 giant wind turbines to spoil the view of his golf club, and we told the newest member of QUEERGURU that it was safe to come out of hiding from his Edinburgh home.
The timing couldn’t have been better as it’s the start of the legendary Edinburgh Fringe. It’s a three-week festival of performing arts that takes place in Edinburgh every August, and dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival. One of the elements that contributes to its success is that the Fringe Constitution states that the organisers can not vet any of the festival’s programme
There is a wealth of queer programming that mixes the famous (Miriam Margoyles) with the infamous Dyke Systems (Drag Satire) and includes ‘dramas” such as ‘Is That A C*ck In Your Pocket, Or Are You Just Here To Kill Me? And so much more.
Hence ROBERT MALCOLM, an Edinburgh native and our newest Contributing Editor and our very first Fringe Correspondent, is working out his own schedule and seeing how many of the 3000+ shows he can see/review within the Fest’s days. At this stage we are not sure what he will cover, but he has just sent us his very first review…..of Rosie O’Donnell’s stand up.
As Robert is a trained interior decorator he is well used to finite details so we are assuming he’ll plan in some food breaks. too! He is also a published authour (under the pen name of Bobby Burns he had his first novel, a gay erotic thriller called Bone Island published by Homofactus Press in 2011) so we know he is good with words. Watch this space to see all his reviews.
