ONE DOOR OPENS ….
Lucky Dubliners have cause to celebrate this week. Ireland’s capital has a new monthly queer club opening this Friday, January 28. NOT SAFE FOR WORK is techno and progressive-dance inspired night is being billed as “a queer safe space” for both dance and play.
As they say on their Eventbrite page, “You survived the apocalypse! Now let’s have a proper f***ing party!”
The night launches in Bow Lane, on Aungier Street, this Friday at 10 pm. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
ANOTHER DOOR CLOSES ….
At the very same time, comes really sad news from London that the fabulous SINK THE PINK is calling it a day . One of East London’s very best queer collective and club night has just announced it will close for good this year
Founded in 2008 by best friends Amy Zing and Glyn Fussell, they started this extravagant and outrageous space as a way of countering “too many bland and non-inclusive nights out”.. Their first event in a working men’s club was attended by just 37 people, but its unparalleled success since then had them selling more than 150,000 tickets to the events that followed.
Glynn said “We’ve shown that our community can be seen and celebrated in mainstream spaces while staying true to what we believe in. We’ve proved that queerness holds enormous power and should be celebrated wherever possible. We’ve given space to the most progressive and beautiful humans that have been an integral part of the queer landscape of London. We’ve helped form friendships, relationships and life-long memories.”
Printworks will be home to the Sink the Pink Farewell Ball on 15 April, with tickets on sale here from 2 February.
