Queer Line Dancing is BACK …. and better then ever

A headline in a recent edition of Advocate Magazine caught my eye and made me burst out laughing.  It simply said. “The Rise of Queer Line Dancing: “A Bit Like Going to Church”. I’m not sure if I totally agree, but I do know that when we queers adopt a new (old) culture, we do it so religiously.

And as if God was reading my thoughts, in my very next batch of emails was an invite from SCUFF Queer Country Dancing to a Rotunda Dance Party in NY on September 28th : how could I possibly refuse.  Turns out the SCUFF peeps have been very busy in a very short 6ime.  Founded in 2025 in the tradition of queer social dance, but now dancers choose the role that feels right to them and they share their knowledge with others—socially, not competitively—and many switch roles throughout the night. That means that everyone dances with everyone and there is no leading or following based on gender. Dancers choose the role that feels right to them.

Plus in such a short time, they have established SCUFF clubs in the Bay Area Palm Springs and Joshua Tree …… and it gets better.  At each of the clubs, they run classes for beginner and intermediate dancers for as little as $200 for a complete course of 12 lessons, or $20 each.

Now, we are not saying you will meet the person of your dreams there (as if), BUT if you do and you get serious, then at least you know they can competently do the first dance at your nuptials.
