Portraits, protest, pride: photography and queerness – Sunil Gupta in conversation with Ghislain Pascal

London’s National Portrait Gallery is hosting a discussion of queerness in photography.  And as we have come to expect from what is arguably the first national public gallery in the world that’s dedicated to portraits, it is doing is some style.

Taking part will be Sunil Gupta, the judge of this year’s Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize,who lives in London and has been involved with independent photography as a critical practice for many years, focusing on race, migration and queer issues. With him will be Ghislain Pascal the co-founder of The Little Black Gallery. In 2018 he created their BOYS! BOYS! BOYS! programme to promote queer and gay fine art photography (and has been somewhat of a regular here in Queerguru 

Together, Gupta and Pascal will explore the history of queer photography, gay rights and the joy of depicting authentic lives on camera.
