Whilst the Jury maybe still out on who we will vote for in the next US Presidential Election (Go Mayor Pete!) we are 100% sure who we would vote for New York City Council (if they would only allow us to participate).
Marti Gould Cummungs is not just one of the city’s favorite drag performers, they are also a passionate activist and advocate for LGBTQ rights and so much more. Just follow their daily twitter feed to see what has them all worked up.
Marti founded the Hells KItchen Democrats often presiding over meetings in full make-up so they could dash straight off to work after. They are a current board member of Manhattans Community Board 9 having been appointed by the Borough President of Manhattan. They are also serving a two year term on the Mayor of NYCs Nightlife Advisory Council and they are a member of the board of directors for The Ali Forney Center for Homeless LGBTQ Youth.
Queerguru first had the pleasure of meeting Marti after they appeared on Fusion TVs show, SHADE Queens on NYC and then as a regular fixture on Bravo TVs Watch What Happens LIVE. The last time we filmed Marti was when they were hosting a Drag Show for Kids during Family Week, and our crew was mesmerised as much as the audience. It is because whatever Marti undertakes they do with the same amount of passion and joie de vie
They were honored by OUT Magazine on the 2018 Out 100 list and won the Glam Award for Entertainer of the Year in 2019. They have also been nominated for Queerty Award and received the Luminary Award for Dedication to Homeless LGBTQ Youth by The Ali Forney Center
We know Marti well enough to know that if elected they will fight for not only our community, but all the others that so need a potential power house like they.
Drag and politics do go hand in hand ( just think Stonewall) so please spread the message to everyone you know who is a NY Voter. On more than one occasion we have told Marti Gould Cummings that we firmly believe they can eventually go on to be our first ever Drag US President, and that the journey starts now
