Just a few days ago a PBS documentary film, “Open Dialogues: Queer Allies” walked away with a Suncoast Regional EMMY AWARD, which after watching this powerful wee film, you know was so well deserved. Made by Miami filmmaker Freddy Rodriguez, and produced by Jeff Rusnak and shot in South Florida, QUEER ALLIES offers the stories and experiences of young people who are begining to self-identity somewhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, and of the people who love and support them.
It was originally broadcast earlier this year but has become so much more relevant and vital in this current hateful political climate where many of the people in the film will now be targets of an unceasing barrage of lies and undiluted hatred. What strikes you so much watching all the interviewees is the level of authenticity and calmness that is such a sheer joy after the vitriolitic screaming of the likes of Margery Taylor Green seemingly on our televisions every day.
In particular my hat goes off to Lisa La Monica Braun T.R.U.S.T Specialist and School S.A.F.E. not only a voice of reasoning but one who makes a point of saying what an honor it is to be able to help counsel these ypoung people and see them bloom and become independent
