On Christopher Street : Transgender Stories

christopherstreet_cover

For the past two years New York award-winning celebrity photographer Mark Seliger has been taking photographs that tell the stories of transgender people who live in his West Village neighborhood.  Seliger said he would approach people he met on the street with a very simple pitch: “I’m working on a body of work and a body of portraits that capture this time on Christopher Street.” Few refused. Most participants, Seliger said, agreed to the photo on the spot.

The result is stunning 160 page book just published by Rizzoli called ‘On Christopher Street‘ with a forward by Janet Mock.   It is also the name of the exhibition of some of these photographs currently on show at 231 PROJECTS at 231 10th Ave  NY 10011. The show runs until January 7th.
