No plans for Saturday (9th August), then stop what you are doing NOW and get your a–e down to New Orleans for one of the most fabulous queer events ever: THE RED DRESS RUN. It’s a tradition that started off in San Diego in 1987 and very quickly became an annual event in New Orleans, and a global phenomenon. Every year on the second Saturday in August, the New Orleans Hash House Harriers (a local “drinking club with a running problem”) organize a charity “run” in the Crescent City. The run usually begins in the French Quarter or Marigny neighborhoods of New Orleans, although the exact location is only announced to those who registered. The runners, with drinks in hand, continue their route through the French Quarter and spend the rest of the day celebrating. Everyone is head to toe in red and some are wearing impossibly high heels too

It’s too late to register to run this year BUT its not too late to squeeze into that scarlet frock we all know you’ve had in the back of your closet for years, and join with all ‘the celebrating’ in the streets with live music, food and lots and lots of drinks.
Beyond the festivities, the event supports local charities through fundraising efforts, adding a philanthropic aspect to the hashing community. The New Orleans Red Dress Run captures the essence of hashing: camaraderie, individuality, and adventure, creating lasting memories while supporting charitable causes. Whether you’re a seasoned hasher or a first-timer, it offers a unique experience, blending the global tradition with the vibrant charm of one of America’s liveliest cities.
