It looks like NETFLIX is determined to ruin our queer Christmas this year, as hot on the heels of the news, they are cancelling the critically and commercially acclaimed series BOOTS (read HERE) comes a report today that another LGBTQ+ program is for the chop.
Olympo, the queer-inclusive drama from the creators of long-running LGBTQ+ series Elite, has been cancelled after just one season. This is despite the first season of the Spanish-language sports drama series just started six months ago in June 2025.
Olympo focused on young, talented sports stars attending the Pirineos High Performance Centre, where they would train in hopes of reaching the Olympics. The series kicked off with competitive swimmer Núria (María Romanillos) collapsing in the school swimming pool while trying to beat her competitor, Amaia (Clara Galle), with the rest of the season exploring the extreme lengths young athletes go to reach their dreams.
Queerguru’s increasing concern is that this latest cancellation is part of a new, very unwelcome trend from Netflix that we have always regarded as one of the most queer-supportive/friendly networks. As in the past Elite ran for eight seasons between 2018 and 2024. Earlier this year they also canceled ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love‘ after two seasons despite its popularity as a spinoff of the original ‘The Ultimatum.’
To be fair, Netflix are not alone as this year as a host of other queer shows have been cancelled across other streaming platforms this year, including Laverne Cox’s critically acclaimed trans comedy Clean Slate, Brian Jordan Alvarez’s comedy English Teacher and Matt Bomer’s comedy Mid-Century Modern.
