MISS FIRE ISLAND: THE LONGEST-RUNNING DRAG PAGEANT IN THE WORLD RETURNS TO THE LEGENDARY ICE PALACE
Saturday, 30th August, sees the 59th Anniversary of the annual Miss Fire Island Pageant. Before you start muttering under your breath about the alleged age of Queerguru, I should tell you we know this because it is officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the longest-running drag pageant in the world. And talking about age, the event will be held at the historic Ice Palace, America’s oldest continually operating gay nightclub.
This year the hosts are Jimbo, one of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars and Ariel Sinclair a New York legend, and although the Show starts in the afternoon, the seaside stage will shimmer with sequins, sass, and show-stopping talent as queens from near and far compete for the coveted title. We’ve been promised an afternoon of high heels, high drama, and high spirits — all set against the backdrop of Fire Island’s breathtaking beauty. Miss Fire Island is more than a competition — it’s a living piece of LGBTQ+ history, a celebration of drag artistry, and a Fire Island tradition spanning decades.
