Meanwhile in the UK Dame Helen and Sir Ian go down to the Pub : whilst Benedict and Jonny Lee play Monsters

Next Monday April 27th Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Ian McKellen are popping down to their local Pub in London to chair a Pub Quiz.  Well, technically they will be doing it Online but that won’t them stopping theme quaffing a few pints of beer.

They will be joined by Oscar Nominated Lesley Manville and Sir Lenny Henry and they are going to be asking questions about history, sport, nature and the National Theatre.  The later topic is because the whole event is a Fundraiser to help pay for the Theatre whilst it is on lockdown.

This is not actually a first time being a Pub Quizmaster as he  part-owns (with  the theatre and film director Sean Mathias, and publisher Evgeny Lebedev) an actual London pub (The Grapes in Limehouse) and has even been known to front its quiz from time to time.

The National Theatre pub quiz is at 7pm BST on Mon Apr 27. Join in via the National Theatre at Home site.  They intend to hold one the final Monday of the Month thereafter.

P.S. You will probably want to check back in with the National Theatre Online on Thursday 30th April and Friday 1st May for another real treat.  Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), directed a critically acclaimed production of Frankenstein  by Nick Dear which sees Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating between the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his creation.  The two were jointly awarded the Evening Standard Theatre Award and the Olivier Award for Best Actor.

You can watch both versions of Frankenstein on the National Theatre’s YouTube channel:  Benedict Cumberbatch performing as the creature from 30 April at 7pm, to 7 May at 7pm BST .  Jonny Lee Miller performing as the creature from 1 May at 7pm, to 8 May at 7pm.  BST
