Making It Big : a new Irish LGBT Web Series

aa
We all think that the grass is always greener elsewhere even when our home turf is Dublin and the lush countryside. Well, that at least is what this group of seven 20-something-year-old gay and lesbians think and they have opted to chance their arm and start new lives in Barcelona, one of Europe’s most fun-loving and free-thinking cities.  Being gay is not the issue here, but the chance to find out who they are really are away from the prying eyes of family and well-meaning friends back home is too tempting an opportunity to pass on.

What will also be different about their new lives is the fact that they are going to film it all and make it into a new reality series of their own called “Making It Big”.  It will follow all their struggles with trying to find new careers and developing their talents and fulfilling their long held dreams and aspirations. Some of them, like Sean and Stuart have been friends since childhood, but others like Abbie (the lone Brit in the group) who is the new girlfriend of Emma, is still getting to know the others.  The one thing they all have in common (besides being Irish and gay) is they all have artistic ambitions  whether it be in music or in performing, and they have this refreshing boundless energy and conviction that they will succeed.

In Episode one, which will be released on You Tube on January 14th, as we start to get know this extremely engaging group, there are already wee hints that even the best of friends such as them, can get involved in each others conflicts. It is fairly obvious too that some of them have more talent than the others so it is unlikely before the series of 9 episodes is over that all of them will ‘make it big’ professionally.  However judging from what we have seen already, the journey to get to that part is going to be extremely enjoyable to watch and savor.

The entire show is filmed and edited by the cast which in itself is a new take on things.  Let’s hope they don’t fight to stop putting in ‘the warts and all’ to make this one reality show that could actually end up being quite real.
