London’s 166 year old Victoria and Albert Museum (known around the globe as the V&A) is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design. Currently the home of stunning Frida Kahlo Exhibit, the Museum’s extensive Fashion Department has 28000 items in its collection, including for example the largest compilation of Vivienne Westwood designs it acquired from a private collector.
The Museum has long been a favorite destination for the LGBTQ community both local and visiting, and has deliberately included them in the permanent and special exhibitions they mount . (Next year’s include one celebrating 60’s fashion icon Mary Quant and another called Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams)
In fact the Museum’s specialised LGBTQ Tours have become so popular they need some help keeping up with the sheer demand. . To satisfy the growing number of visitors and to be able to continue to deliver a fabulous experience for them, they need more LGBTQ guides.
The V&A guided tours are all led by volunteers, they are legendary for their quality and for providing visitors with new insights into the collections – it’s about uncovering the hidden stories in the objects owned by the nation and making them accessible to everyone.
So they are now looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have a strong interest in the LGBTQ stories the collections can tell and have a passion for sharing them with the public. They will train you in guiding, induct you into the V&A and its LGBTQ mission, provide you with a mentor and support you all the way to going live and beyond. In return you have to commit to the training, conduct your own research and develop a tour which meets their standards. This will take around three months, and then the V & A ask you to commit to delivering at least eight tours a year for two years.
All sounds pretty fab to us. Interested? Then you have until August 28th 2018 to apply : HERE’S HOW
P.S. Queerguru would love you to bits if you did us one tiny favor. Despite the fact that we have had almost 295K hits on YouTube (yeah!) they will not give us a single cent of the advertising money that they make off us until we have more subscribers. Won’t cost you a dime, but it will help support our site. Just simply click on the link below. Thank you very much!
