November always heralds the start of GFEST – Gaywise FESTival®, London’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) cross – art festival. This year is their 10th Anniversary and to celebrate they have chosen the theme ‘Arts Protest’.
Produced by arts charity Wise Thoughts, GFEST focuses on featuring the best art by some of the established names alongside fresh, young artists and queer talent working across the arts which gives the whole Festival such an edge. Events range from art exhibition, performances, films screening, debates and events.
The main feature film being shown this year is Fire Song as achingly beautiful story set in a First Nation community in Canada. It is compassionately told and is tinged with more than it’s share of sadness, as openly gay filmmaker Adam Garnet Jones shows how tough it is for LGBT people to be themselves in these tight small communities. queerguru spoke to Garnett Jones about making this extraordinary movie.
13th -24th November 2017
