Out gay Brit Actor Russell Tovey who starred in Looking, and more recently The Pass, is set to star in a new revival of Tony Kushner’s multi-award winning epic drama about the AIDS pandemic Angels in America at London’s Royal National Theater.  The play was first produced at the same theater in 1992, and this  new production will be directed by Olivier and two time Tony award-winner Marianne Elliott.

Co-starring with Tovey is Academy Award Nominated Actor (for Hacksaw Ridge) Andrew Garfield who also turned heads ( and hearts?)  when he playfully kissed Ryan Reynolds at the Golden Globe Awards recently.  Also appearing with them is Irish actress Denise Gough who recently won an Olivier Award in 2016 for her breakthrough performance in Peoples, Places, Things.

Set in the 1980s at the height of the Aids epidemic, Angels in America charts the lives of a group of New Yorkers and is split into two separately  plays entitled Millennium Approaches and Perestroika. It was turned into a critically-acclaimed HBO miniseries starring Al Pacino and Meryl Streep in 2003, winning a then-record haul of 11 Emmy Awards.

The booking office has already opened and the play at the Royal National Theatre runs from April 11.  There are also plans to broadcast the show by NT Live to cinemas around the UK and internationally.  Watch this space for further details.
