If you are a regular QUEERGURU reader, you will know that for the bulk of the year, we are now based in Provincetown at the very tip of Cape Cod. No two days are ever the same here, and throughout the years, we have had the sheer joy of meeting and befriending some exceptionally wonderful people.
Like the much-beloved Thirsty Burlington, who is Drag Royalty in these parts. She is far more Cher than Cher. The very first time we got to sit down to talk together was back in 2016 on the eve of the preview of her rather fab autobiographical movie THIRSTY. It was wonderful being up close and personal to this Headlining Star, who we quickly discovered has a very mischievous sense of humor, much of which is unfit to print. You can check out that interview HERE
We also quickly discovered that we had a very special friend in common. We had interviewed the legendary 9 times Emmy Award Winning costume designer Bob Mackie several times who told us “I’ve seen a lot of performers do Cher, but I’ve never seen anyone do Cher better than Thirsty.” You simply cannot get a better compliment than that
Our paths crossed again in 2019 when we discovered that Thirsty wanted to adopt The Boy Band Project. In all the years we had known her, she had never once put a foot in the door of a Gym. However when she was offered the chance to star in a video with a hot new Boy Band she couldn’t get to PTown’s Mussel Beach Gym quick enough.
Over the years the love we have for Thirsty has also turned to sheer admiration, as Scott the man is battling some hellish cancers. Whenever we read his updates of their ups (but more often downs) we can still sense the sheer determination …… and love of life …..in every single post. Each difficult step that may make things worse, is relayed to us in a spirit that I know none of us would ever be able to achieve.
We are also proud of this town we call home as people reach out to offer help and support. Last year Provincetown’s Gifford House hosted THIRSTY THROUGH THE YEARS: an iconic and inclusive fashion benefit. It was a chance to have a fab evening but its also your chance to pick up some of Thirsty’s style as a way of contributing.
Now this year on July 2nd, the Provincetown Film Society are screening THIRSTY the move in a special one night only Benefit to help Thirsty’s relentless medical expenses
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A MUCH NEEDED DONATION
