João Pedro Santos : INSOMNIA @Art Gaysel 2022: Hotel Gaythering, Miami

When Alex Guerre the co-owner of Miami’s gayest Hotel …. The Gathering … and also the Curator of Art Gaysel left Provincetown when the summer ended this year he carefully took a ‘souvenir’ away with him.  Not the usual model of the famous Pilgrim’s Tower or even one of those T-shirts declaring his sexuality  (as if he needed it ).  No,  he swept up João Pedro Santos one of the Town’s most popular performers who had been playing to sold-out crowds at the Crown and Anchor all summer long and so Alex courted him to travel South this winter.

Here’s how Alex explained it to Queerguru :

“I first met João when I was getting to know the townies my first summer in Ptown, the summer of 2021. Then this past summer, I was excited to see Joao headlining his own show at the Crown & Anchor. A proud moment no less. It was great to see him level up and get to share his talent with a broader audience than those of us that get to call him a friend.

Later in the summer, it was finally my turn to see the show and become an “Insomniac” much like Lady Gaga has her “Little Monsters”, I was about to be one of Joao’s “Little Insomniacs”. We got through the first song and instantly my ART GAYSEL wheels were spinning. I was just coming off of my first ART GAYSEL PTOWN high, and having included PTOWN artists MaMa Lee Curtis, Paul Rizzo, Benwa, Chick Byrne & Josh Months in our 2021 ART GAYSEL Miami, I knew Joao and his show “Insomnia” had to be our 2022 ART GAYSEL Miami show.”

So with the help of Jonathan Hawkins one of the new co-owners of the Crown and Anchor aboard co-presenting João’s redesigned, re-staged, and reimagined the whole show specifically for this venue/experience. The music you loved and the story you related to – but now with a @gaythering / art gaysel / Miami spin
