Jane Hilton has a long way to commute to work. This truly remarkable photographer and filmmaker lives in London, but for the past 25 years she has been documenting American culture, in particular the American West. Her stunning work has included her depicting the lifestyle of the twenty-first century cowboy; and featuring intimate nude portraits of working girls in Nevada, and most recently exploring American Gun Culture with a collection of unique ‘shot up’ target posters.

Her work makes for compelling viewing, and more than once, I was stopped in my tracks by the sheer breathtaking beauty of the pieces which are about to be curated in her Solo show in The Hulett Collection, a fine art gallery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing in classic 20th-century and contemporary photographic works.
They describe the show “Cowboys and Queens” reflects the new modern-day American Dream. A utopian cocktail that celebrates the freedom and stance of the iconic working cowboy, with the flamboyance and inventiveness of the drag queen. nThe inspiration is indisputable: from Sergio Leone and Tarantino, to Dorsey Swan and Ru Paul. Stunning blue skies and western landscapes by day, and the frisson of nightclubs and bars by night. Both represent liberty and endless possibilities. A new frontier has emerged… …a new Americana.
