We must confess that Christophe Honoré is hardly one of our favorite French queer filmmakers. His work always comes with great fanfares but he so often fails to deliver on the promises he makes, however, the buzz from the Cannes Film Festival is that finally, he has made a movie that actually deserves all the attention it is getting.
Sorry Angel is an AIDS drama set in the 1980’s and centers around Arthur (Vincent Lacoste), a 22-year-old college student from Britanny, who has a love affair with Jacques (Pierre Deladonchamps), a 39-year-old writer in Paris who lives with his young son.
Jacques is HIV-positive, broke and his career has stalled with poor finances and stalled career, whilst Arthur has yet to begin a career or even come out, for that matter. Add to that is Jacques’ fiftysomething neighbor Mathieu (Denis Podalydes) and the intergenerational community that these men create for each other.
The film will be released later this year and then we can judge for ourselves if the hype is justified, meanwhile below check out the trailer.
