Is London’s V & A the most LGBTQ friendly museum in the world?

London’s VIctoria & Albert Museum currently home to the Sold Out Exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams is probably one of the most LGBTQ friendly Museums in the world.

They have an official LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) Working Group  which is comprised of Museum staff with an interest in using the V&A’s collections to explore issues of gender, sexuality and identity.

It looks to unearth previously hidden or unknown LGBTQ histories in the collections and aim to facilitate understanding of LGBTQ identities and histories through research, public programming, discussion and debate. They also consider the ways in which visitors themselves interpret and make sense of museum objects on the basis of their own identities and experiences.

On the last Saturday of every month there is a  one hour LGBTQ tour which explores gender and sexual identities through a selection of objects in the vast and beautiful collections. For more information and to book a place contact [email protected].

Although the  blockbuster Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams  which spans from 1947 to present day and traces the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most influential couturiers is sold out, extra tickets are released monthly around the 15th BUT maybe the monthly tour covers this too……who knows.

Following DIor will be an exhibition devoted to the work of 60’s fashion icon MARY QUANT the queen of miniskirts and hot pants  totally unmissable to any fashionista or anyone nostalgic for London’s Swinging Sixties.  That opens on April 6th and will also probably sell out : tickets and info HERE
