In the UK The Best TV Travel Guides are all hosted by LGBTQ stars

We don’t think that this actually constitutes a major new trend  BUT we have suddenly become aware of LGBTQ+ people hosting excellent TV travel programs in the UK   As they put their own spin on the places they visit and the people they meet we realize how naturally curious (nosey?) gay people are, but even more important how much joy they share about their encounters.  This is such a fresh approach to travelogues we wonder why it’s taken so long for Tv producers to catch on.

Sandi Toksvig Extraordinary Escapes British/Danish lesbian successful TV  Presenter Sandi Toksvig can hardly contain her joy as she takes her staycations in some architectural gem tucked away in remoter parts of the UK.  Now in her third season,  Toksvig invites a different comedienne of funny women to join her in each episode: so far they have included Alison Steadman, Sarah Millican Fay Ripley, and most recently Suzy Eddie Izzard.

82-year-old Miriam Margoyles a British/Australian  BAFTA award-winning character actress and very outspoken lesbian has hosted two travel shows The first with Alan Cumming was  Lost in Scotland and Beyond which had the pair of actors careering across some of the country’s most spectacular scenery and encountering a range of eccentric and unexpected characters.  This time Margolyes travels driving an RV across the vast Australian countryside in Miriam Margolyes: Almost Australian.

Margolyes may have made her reputation in classic dramas from the likes of Dickens, but in the past few years, she has gained a totally new fan base from her hilarious appearances on The Graham Norton Chat Show. Her unfettered sexual stories on national TV have made her a star all over again, and this is the very natural and funny style she uses in this new travel show.  Margolyyes has this natural knack for bringing the best out in people and because of her own  candid nature there cannot be a single person even in the remotest  part of Australia that doesn’t now know what a happy lesbian she is,

Hysterically funny British comedian Joe Lycett who associates with the  B  in LGBTQ  is also known by the self-given moniker Mummy.  Lycett is known for his sardonically camp style and whimsical public stunts like challenging David Beckham for his multimillion-pound sponsorship deal promoting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in homophobic Qatar due to the country’s stance on LGBT rights.   In 2020 in support of several small businesses being threatened with lawsuits for having Boss in their titles, Lycett changed his name legally to Hugo Boss as part of his protest against the bullying tactics of the mega German fashion brand

A regular TV presenter (and panel show guest), Lycett hosted shows like The Great British Sewing Bee, and then in 2021 he took over hosting Travel Man TV Series.  He travels to a popular city in each episode, accompanied by a celebrity guest, to provide viewers with a potential itinerary for a two-day break.   With his quick wit and wicked sense of humor. Lycett is in his element.

You can stream Travel Man on https://www.channel4.com and      www.plextv.com ....
nb Lycett started in Season 10
