The legendary Grace Jones who is the most stunning septuagenarian we have ever seen is back. One of our very favorite queer iconic divas is about to host a ‘Meltdown’. as she takes charge of the 27th edition of the UK’s longest-running artist-curated music festival. For her line-up at London’s Southbank center Jones brings together some wonderfully diverse ecletic artists from across the globe.
Genre-bender Honey Dion has been chosen to DJ the opening night party on June 10th; the legendary feminist pop icon Peaches makes a triumphant return with an explosive show on June 11th; Angelique Kidjo joins forces with captivating young talent from across West African music, Afrobeat, Afro-pop, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B; tribute to Barry White at a live show conducted by Charles Hazlewood and performed by Paraorchestra, with Nadine Shah and Ibibio Sound Machine’s Eno Williams; the hotly tipped Black feminist punk band Black Joanie describe themselves as ‘The Ronettes filtered through 80s DIY and 90s riot grrrl, with a sprinkling of dashikis’; and Miss Jones herself with her cross-genre music, avant-garde costumes and wild performances, she is never one to disappoint a crowd.
