Florida drag queen MISS BOUVEE is determined that Gov Ron DeSanctimonious will not stop PRIDE

No doubt about it, but in Queerguru’s ‘other’ home state, Florida, there is a brand-new queer hero.  Or should we say, heroine?  Eric Swanson, who performs as Miss Bouvèé, acquired 50 bricks from Miami Beach’s former rainbow crosswalk at 12th Street and Ocean Drive through a city auction. Now, Miss Bouvèé is offering the salvaged bricks to supporters in exchange for donations starting at $250, with proceeds benefiting Naples Pride and Key West Pride.
The funds are desperately needed since Florida’s Governor Rick DeSantimonius (otherwise known as Rick DeSatan) has spearheaded a despicable homophobic campaign to make hell for the queer community….. which, at the last count, numbered 1,045,800 in the State .  Earlier this year, he signed legislation restricting local governments from funding or promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, raising concerns about support for LGBTQ+ events.
So far, that has led to the cancellation of Fort Myers / Pride Southwest Florida (2025) and Tampa Pride (2026), but many more are struggling to hang on, including St. Pete Pride. The 24-year-old St. Petersburg organization just launched a fundraising drive, hoping to raise $289,000 by the end of November. The organization said it needs that money to cover outstanding expenses from this year.   Like many Pride events nationwide, St. Pete Pride has seen a dramatic decline in corporate sponsorships.

In a statement, St. Pete Pride President Trent Brock said, “I want to be clear that sponsorships naturally ebb and flow. Businesses evolve, budgets change, leadership transitions happen, and priorities shift. We don’t expect every company to sponsor St. Pete Pride every year or contribute the same amount year after year. We understand those realities and value the relationships we’ve built with our corporate partners, but 2026 was different. It was our largest decline in sponsorship support, and I don’t believe that’s a coincidence.”

Supporters can receive individual bricks, framed rainbow-painted bricks, or framed sets of six bricks, depending on their donation. Each offering includes a commemorative plaque identifying the crosswalk’s original location and the dates it was installed and removed.

Donors make contributions directly to Naples Pride or Key West Pride through links provided by Miss Bouvèé, who then arranges pickup, delivery, or shipping of the bricks.

Those interested in supporting the fundraiser can find more information and request a brick through Miss Bouvèé’s brick inquiry form.
