Celebrated Belgian choreographer Thierry Smits has been creating dance productions and performance pieces for his own internationally renowned company Compagnie Thor for over 25 years now. Their very inspired work is frequently deemed controversial as Smits insists on pushing the envelope as far as he can. He shows a fascination in his work that explores our relationship to the body as an object of desire, pleasure and finiteness – which Smits considers, today more than ever, as a political space.
None more so than their latest work Anima Ardens (burning soul) which is eleven men, eleven dancers, in a permanent state of nudity that underlines the diversity of their bodies and origins, throwing themselves, body and soul into this.
