The Bishopsgate Institute in London is launching the archive of Orlando Myxx a multidisciplinary artist who uses photography, video, and performance for his research which focuses on the exploration of transness as a mental, physical, and cultural experience
For the launch, Myxx will be joined by artist and researcher Elly Clarke for an exploration of drag in relation to the archive. Plus a Performative Lecture will drag the audience through screenings of The Plastic Drag series, live performances, and a discussion about creating and caring for the queer archive.
In physics, drag is a force that pulls in two directions at once: forwards, and back; up, and down. It is also both a performance – with the possibility of transformation – and a burden, or resistance. Within the context of this archive, how do we hold this tension? How do we represent evidence of a time, an event, a happening,a performance out of the physical and digital matter that remains?
