Personally we never usually think about drag queens and children in the same sentence, but maybe we are wrong . The folk at the Feminist Press think that they have a lot in common : well they both love dressing up and all things sparkly and fancy! So they have established a popular children’s storytelling series, and in this month’s installment the fabulous Merrie Cherry will share a story from What Flowers Say, by George Sand. “Kids of all genders love dressing up as princesses and fairies,” says Rachel Aimee, coordinator of children’s programming at the Feminist Press. “Drag Queen Story Hour celebrates that without the baggage of gender stereotyping.”
In case you didn’t know Ms Cherry was named one of “Brooklyn’s most beautiful people” by Paper magazine, and is the host and creator of DRAGnet, the longest running drag competition in Brooklyn.
