Ginger Minj is a plus-size diva drag queen currently making her PTown Debut with a month long engagement at the Art House Theater. Long before her appearances on DragRace Ginger could be found in wowing crowds in Hamburger Mary’s in her hometown of Orlando Florida. But since then she has been spending the past year and a half touring the world, performing show tunes on national television , recording her debut studio album, and her appearance on the new season of RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race.
This very funny lady likes to keep herself busy whether it be in Bars or behind them. Last year she starred in a new production of Tom Eyen’s camp classic, Women Behind Bars, in Hollywood’s Montalban Theater. Her co-stars were Chi Chi Devayne (who very sadly died aged 34 last year), Suzie Kennedy, Miss Coco Peru and the legendary Traci Lords and Mink Stole. Rounding out the cast is Wesley Woods, Poppy Fields, Tatiana Monteiro, and Adrienne Couper Smith. Scott Thompson directs.
The play is a fabulous parody of the prison exploitation films of the 1950s, and the action takes place in the Women’s House of Detention in Greenwich Village. It tells the story of an innocent young woman set to the slammer on false charges. After seven years of “correction,” she emerges a hard-edged, gum-chomping drug dealer.
This latest production of WOMEN BEHUND BARS will be released on BroadwayHD
streaming service starting August 26th
P.S. The original production opened off-Broadway in 1975, with drag icon Divine joining the 1976 revival to play the prison’s sadistic matron.
