What must it be like these days with all the hatred posed at the queer community to have a city who still actively promotes their rich drag culture? We’re talking about the city of West Hollywood who are partnering with Drag Arts Lab to present Mariachi Fiesta! — a free public concert starring drag performer and violinist Queen Angelina. The Event will feature Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, the world’s first LGBTQ+ mariachi band, alongside the Colibrí Ensemble Folklorico dance troupe. The two-hour concert is funded in part by the City’s TGI Arts Grant, which supports trans and gender non-conforming artists.
Queen Angelina, winner of the 2024 Jose Sarria Drag Pageant, is a Latinx queer artist and activist originally from Aguascalientes, Mexico. In May 2023, she became the first person to change their gender marker to non-binary (“X”) in Mexico, with the help of the Mexican Consulate in Houston. After moving to Los Angeles in January 2024 to escape anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Texas, Queen Angelina has become known for her performances inspired by Lady Gaga, Selena, Ariana Grande, and Celine Dion.
Also appearing will be Nomi B Low, Athena Kills, Hummingbird Meadows & Ensamble Folclórico COLIBRI from San Jose, CA 💃
Mariachi Fiesta! on March 13 will begin at 6:30 p.m, Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park . at 1166 N. Vista St., West Hollywood, CA 90046. |
