Even if you have such a vast prolific acting career that has stretched for some 25 years, its amazing what you get remembered for. In the case of actor, comedian, writer, and director, DREW DROEGE he is best known for a series of online impressions of Chloë Sevigny that went viral! But now wearing his writer’s hat, he is currently THE hot Off-Broadway ticket for his hilariously funny new play MESSY WHITE GAYS, which just may change all that. It is the must-see gay comedy of the season and one of the funniest shows of the year and it’s outlandish, campy, and honey, and it just might be about you.
It’s all set in a fabulous over-the-top Manhattan apartment that every prissy camp queen dreams, but when the curtain comes up we soon discover the lives of the filthy rich gay men who live there are far from perfect. Brecken (James Cusati-Moyer) and Caden (Aaron Jackson) have finished murdering Monty, the “third” in their throuple (“He said he only liked Jean Smart,” says Brecken). Brecken works for a gay sex app, but Caden is a filthy-rich scion of the Smucker family—and now they’re in a … jam. Monty (played by a limp mannequin) is lying dead in the middle of their posh, high-rise abode
They are only panicking about how to dispose of Monty because they have guests arriving for brunch : and as evey queen knows NOTHING should ever get in the way of that. Just as they stuff the body into the credenza then pink-panted pussyboy Thacker (Pete Zias) bolts in looking like a big bump of 2C and starts asking questions about Monty’s whereabouts. Then enters beefcake Addison (Derek Chadwick), biceps bulging, and he starts asking questions when he smells something a little off. What could possibly go wrong?
Droege has written himself a gem of a part as the nosey downstairs neighbor Karl, who insists of doling out his “wisdom” to this younger generation who naturally do not give a damn about what he thinks. In fact, all these men are comfortable only in their narrow social and racial milieu, and quick to blame the outside world for what ails them. But we all know that ‘out’ there, they are ‘not worthy’ of the outpouring of catty zingers which had this gay man rolling in the aisles
