If Brit make-up artist and photographer Darren Evans had his way we would all look divine. Or more specifically like Divine the outrageous wonderful star of John Water’s movies who is still considered an iconic diva to the LGBTQ world. Today’s drag community, in particular, owe so much to her for the way she changed the whole culture of trashy glam.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of her death, so it’s perfect timing for Evans new tribute with a brilliant series of some 50 photographs in which he has transformed his friends and acquaintances in Divine’s image. Evans’ models could not be more diverse and include Divines of all genders, ages, and races, from luminaries of London’s LGBTQ burlesque subculture (including Lavinia Co-op, Rubyyy Jones, and Mzz Kimberley) to writer Justin David, singer Marc Almond – to his ten-year-old nephew!
