Courtney Act first burst on to US TV Screens in season six of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, but by then the dragqueen/singer was already quite famous in her native Australia. She first came to prominence competing on the first season of Australian Idol in 2003 which landed her a recording contract with Sony.
Courtney may not have made the Number One spot on Ru Paul’s ubiquitous show,. but she is one of very few, who have catapulted her appearance into a highly succesfull international career> From Celebrity Big Brother UK to hosting The Bi Life, the UK’s first bisexual reality dating show, on E! and her own television special, The Courtney Act Show. This has gone unnoticed as last year a panel of judges from New York magazine placed her third on their list of “the most powerful drag queens in America“, a ranking of 100 former Drag Race contestants.
Now she is back in London which has become like a second home and is starring in “Death Drop” – billed as “a ‘Dragatha Christie’ murder mystery”. It’s in the Garrick Theatre, one if the very few that has re-opened, but then we know that its our community that always loves to lead the way.
With co-star Monét X Change, this brand-new comedy is a historic West End first bringing together a full cast of leading drag performers. The play is set 1991 and a gaggle of guests gather on Tuck Island for a soirée like no other. The tension rises as the outrageous guests reveal their questionable pasts, and the ferocious finger pointing and savage speculation begins. One by one they sashay away, until at the last, nerve-shredding, side-splitting moment we find out who-dunnit!
The play is written by Holly Stars and is directed by Jesse Jones and also stars Kemah Bob, Louis Cyfer, Anna Phylactic, Holly Stars and Vinegar Strokes.
