Color Me Queer …… and Happy

The indefatigable lesbian comedian Kristen Becker thrust a copy of this book in queerguru’s hands and told me (in her very don’t-dare-defy me voice) this is something we should know about.  And she is right.  This time anyway, but please don’t tell her I said that . She has been like a Whirling Dervisher this season promoting her ‘Summer of Sass‘ project that seeks to give LGBTQ youth from the Deep South a break from their difficult circumstances as they get to live and work in Provincetown the gay mecca on Cape Cod.

The scheme has started small in its first season with just three kids, but if you could see all their beaming faces after just a few days in their new surroundings, you would not only know that Becker was right, but also that we do to need to do more to support her efforts to be able to give more of these youths a fresh break next year.  She got together with local P.Town artist Justine Ives and Boheme Press to create the coloring book  for adults with the theme—and title Resistance to sell to raise the funds.

Each of the pages has drawn on the talent and passion of more than 15 extraordinary artists and each piece is the creators personal interpretation of resistance. So you can get out all that pent up frustration with the present political climate and actually make a difference at the same time as all of the proceeds will go to help bring more  Summer of Sass kids for a break in P.Town.

The book retails at $20 and can be currently purchased in loads of P Town Stores, such as Coffey Clothing, Pop & Dutch General Store, GaleForce Bike Store etc. etc.  You can also purchase it direct from www.summerofsass.com.

P.S. If case you missed it when it was released here is queerguru’s interview with Kristen Becker when she told us all about her rather wonderful project
