Dame Joan is Back! Not that she ever went far, but the Brit Prima Donna will be back on our TV screens later this month in A MURDER BETWEEN FRIENDS, an enjoyable, “Agatha Christie-esque” whodunit. The producers have described it as ‘campy,’ but we would expect nothing less from the ex-star of Dynasty. It’s been described as a low-stakes, glamorous satire set in a Czech castle that is well-suited for fans of classic, “soapy” murder mysteries, though some critics might find it simple.
This love letter to classic mysteries was filmed on location at Úsobí Castle, offering old Hollywood glamour and high-stakes intrigue. It’s a stylish, fun whodunit with a soap opera, “know-your-suspects” feel, often described as a love letter. So far its been praised as an entertaining, well-acted, and twist-laden mystery on platforms like Letterboxd, although some reviews suggest it feels “campy” or light.
It’s not gentlemanly to discuss her age…. although most people know she is over 90 now and has survived her younger sister, the novelist Jackie Collins, some 10 years her junior

PS This is, however, not the Dame’s swansong as she is currently at the Cannes Film Festival for the World Premiere of yet another new film. In it she stars as Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, in the biopic My Duchess (previously titled The Bitter End). “This was my passion project and it came to fruition. My other passion project, which never did, was Cleopatra,” she told British Vogue. “And then my friend Elizabeth Taylor got it.” Dame Joan is also quoted as saying, “I’m always fascinated by women who everybody says are nasty people. And when you strip it all off, you find out that they’re not really.” This is one film QUEERGURU is so looking forward to, even if it’s for all the writing reasons
