Young Brit actor Harris Dickinson who stole the hearts of both the critics and audiences alike for his breakthrough performance in the coming-of-age drama Beach Rats is the star of a new movie that has been chosen the to be the Closing Night Gala of this year’s BFI Flare: London’s LGBTQ Film Festival.
Postcards From London tells the story of beautiful teenager Jim who, having traveled from the suburbs, finds himself in Soho where he falls in with a gang of unusual high-class male escorts – The Raconteurs – who specialize in post-coital conversation. From shy novice to sought after escort, and eventually artist’s muse, Jim would be the toast of the town if it wasn’t for his annoying affliction – Stendhal Syndrome – a rare condition which causes him to hallucinate and faint. When Jim is roped into the world of detecting art forgery, could his condition bring about his downfall?
Directed by Steve McLean and it is his long-awaited follow-up to his 1994 Sundance and Indie Spirit-nominated drama Postcards from America. The film was based on the writings of artist and AIDS activist David Wojnarowicz, who passed away in 1992.
For the Opening Night Gala for this 32nd edition of BFI Flare, the programmers have selected Tali Shalom-Ezer’s My Days of Mercy. Starring Ellen Page (Juno, Inception & Freeheld) and Kate Mara (House of Cards, The Martian), Shalom-Ezer’s follow up to Princess is a poignant love story between two women from vastly different backgrounds.
The openly gay Oscar-nominated Page plays Lucy, the daughter of a man who is on death row and who falls in love with Mercy, a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause. As a result, Lucy’s value for truth is tested as her world begins to unravel.
