The Beecroft Art Gallery in UK’s Southend is currently playing homage to one of the country’s most influential fashion designers ever. Biba’s Barbara Hulanicki revolutionized the way we dressed (men included) in London’s swinging sixties and hasn’t stopped since. This exhibition which runs until January 2017 explores the iconic brand from its humble beginnings as a postal clothing boutique, to its unprecedented success and expansion into the world of home wares, cosmetics, and even food. Biba and everything associated with it became a lifestyle aspiration for nearly all teenagers and young adults during the 1960s and 70s.
Now the Gallery are hosting a special one-one event on October 8th 2016 called Bring Out Your Biba!, which will be an afternoon celebrating all things Biba with talks from Steven Thomas – Designer of the Big Biba store and Delisia Price – original Biba Buyer. There will also be a question and answer session with two prolific collectors of Biba including Adam Keppel – collector of the Biba exhibition and Angela Jane Smith. They will not only answer your questions but they can help to identify any Biba items you bring along!
